BUS 312 - Computer Forensics Credits: 4 Planned Offering: Spring
Prerequisite: At least sophomore standing. This course introduces computer forensic investigation and provides insight to the importance of computer security in organizations, present and future. Computer forensics involves obtaining and analyzing digital information for use as evidence in civil, criminal, or administrative cases. The course examines computer-related crimes such as hacking, theft of intellectual property, identity theft, and fraud. Students learn how consumer and citizen information is stored and shared, how electronic financial transactions are conducted, and the importance of computer forensics within areas such as accounting, business, and the law. Students also learn about the tools and methods used by law enforcement when investigating cybercrimes, how to perform computer crime investigations, and the recovery and analysis of digital evidence. The course provides hands-on experience in applying digital forensic tools and basic understanding of computer networks, including their components, functionality, and vulnerabilities. Pratt.
