POL 392 - Issues in Asian Politics FDR: SS2 Credits: 3 Planned Offering: Fall
Prerequisite: Vary with topic. A topical seminar focusing on Chinese politics, other Asian countries, or selected subjects in Asian politics. May be repeated for degree credit with permission and if the topics are different.
Topic of Fall 2011:
POL 392: Issues in Asia: Nuclear Japan (3). Prerequisite: Politics 100, 105, an East Asian Studies course, or instructor consent. From its experience as the only nation to date to have suffered attack by nuclear weapons to the accidents at the Fukushima nuclear power reactors following the recent Tohoku earthquake, nuclear weapons and energy have played an important role in Japanese politics. This course follows peace movements, energy policymaking, foreign policy, and local government politics looking both to understand Japan’s complicated relationship with “nuclear politics” and to learn what relevance Japan’s nuclear history may have to other nations.
