LAW 653 - Crimmigration Law Seminar

Credits: 2
Description: This course explores the historical context in which this area of law developed, and the ways in which is being shaped under the current administration. In addition, this course will provide students with practical insight into representing individuals -whether as defense attorneys, prosecutors, or in immigration practice. Specifically, students will become familiar with and adept at employing the categorical approach, modified categorical approach, and other required analyses, such as determining whether a conviction constitutes an aggravated felony or a CIMT. Students will also become skilled at evaluating whether an individual is removable for commissions of these and/or other offenses, including various drug crimes. Students will have the opportunity to explore and develop their own critical theories about the application of the law, as well as hone their skills in order to best represent future clients.
