LAW 281 - European Court of Human Rights Seminar. The seminar is designed to offer law students the opportunity to engage in advanced legal writing, research, and development of advocacy materials in matters of substantive international human rights law. The Seminar will be a coordinated program with law students at Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia, and LLM law students at Union University School of Law in Belgrade, Serbia. Students will study International Human Rights issues through the cases and procedures of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This Seminar is jointly taught (by video conference) with students and faculty from Union University School of Law in Belgrade, Serbia, including 2 presentations by Retired Judge Popović, formerly of the ECtHR, and Dr. Vidan Hadži-Vidanović from the ECtHR Registry.
The principle work anticipated will be in three categories: Past and current cases to study the procedures and case law of the ECtHR, cases focused on the selected Grand Chamber case issues and International Human Rights issues from other jurisdictions that related to or can be influenced by the case law of the ECtHR. Selected case(s) before the grand Chamber studied in details and a student-drafted opinion with analysis on the issue(s) presented to the Court.
