The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (EALL) is committed to the mission of liberal arts education that aims at fostering well-rounded, critical-thinking individuals with a broad understanding of the increasingly complex, diverse, and globalizing world. Through its comprehensive curriculum, the department encourages students to explore language, culture, and the humanities as interrelated fields that shape our understanding of East Asia and its global connections.
A student may not complete both a major and a minor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures which focus on the same language. Chinese minors are encouraged, though not required, to study abroad (for Spring Term or longer) in a reputable language-based Chinese program. Students must complete CHIN 111 or equivalent prior to declaring the minor.
A minor in Chinese requires completion of at least seven courses beyond CHIN 111 . In meeting the requirements of this discipline-based minor, a student may not use more than nine credits used to meet the requirements of another major or minor.
