SOAN 260 - Cults

Credits: 3 In this course, we will explore the phenomenon of cults (also known as NRMs – new religious movements). We will look at the development of cults, how they operate, and the experiences of those who participate in them. We will discuss brainwashing, gender, violence, sexuality, child rearing, and the possibility of objectivity on the part of the researcher. Special units include a QAnon expert and Marsha Goluboff Low who spent eighteen years as an Ananda Marga yogic nun. FDR: SS4 Goluboff.
