ROML 296 - Spring-Term Topics in Romance Languages

Credits: 4 Prerequisites vary with topic. Nature and content of the course is determined by the interests of the instructor(s) and student(s). May be repeated for degree credit if the topics are different. Staff. Offered when interest is expressed and departmental resources permit.

Spring 2021, ROML 296-01: Topics in Romance Languages: Masks and Mirrors of Love in French Literature (3). Prerequisite: Completion of FDR FW. This course will explore the theme of Love between human beings as represented in selected works of French literature from the 12th Century to the present.  We will read one major literary work (in translation) each week from the era of study. During the week students will be exposed to writers and works contemporary with the oeuvre they are reading. We will also consider and discuss historical and cultural situations from which this literature arose.
