BUS 302 - Seminar in Finance

Credits: 3 credits in fall or winter, 4 in spring Prerequisite: BUS 221 and at least junior standing. Preference to BSADM and ACCT majors during the first round of registration. Offered from time to time when interest is expressed and departmental resources permit. May be repeated for degree credit if the topics are different.

Winter 2021, BUS 302A-01: Seminar in Finance: Behavioral Finance (3). Prerequisite: BUS 221. Standard (or traditional) finance builds its theories on the assumption that assets are valued in modern financial markets through the buy-and-sell decisions of rational, profit-maximizing investors. An accumulating body of research challenges this fundamental premise, suggesting instead that financial and investment decisions are motivated by a complex array of biases, heuristics, emotions, group behavior, and stock market inefficiency. The course examines the applications of various behavioral finance topics within wealth management, managerial finance, personal finance, and the history of the stock market. Behavioral coaching and other strategies are covered to provide future financial professionals and investors with techniques to improve their intuitive and analytical decision-making skills. Ricciardi.
