BUS 247 - Ramen, Red Bull, and (Free) Radicals: Technology Startup Cultures and Caricatures Credits: 4 Planned Offering: Spring
Prerequisite: Instructor consent. Open to all sophomores, juniors and seniors. Does not meet major requirements.
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the startup cultures and caricatures behind the technologies that impact our lives. Key works of literature and film that attempted to capture or caricature startup culture over the last few decades are read, viewed, and discussed. Students travel to Silicon Valley to meet individuals who are a part of the recent startup/technology scene and visit key locations that capture the history of this scene. Students research and develop a substantial, written project investigating the history of a key technology of their interest, analyzing both the technological as well as the cultural dimensions of the underlying startup ecosystem.
