JOUR 180: FY: The Press and Obama 2.0: Covering the First 100 Days of the President’s Second Term (3). First-Year Seminar. Prerequisite: Open to First-Years only. The news media have been intertwined with presidential elections and the challenges of carrying out campaign promises since our country’s founding. In the 21st century, though, media messages bombard us around the clock from myriad new devices and sources. In this highly interactive seminar, students examine these messages through real-time monitoring of the news media’s coverage of the first 100 days of President Obama’s second term. (HU) Mitchell.

JOUR 180: FS:The Press and the 2012 Presidential Campaign: Winning the White House in the Age of Twitter (3). First-Year Seminar. Prerequisite: Open to First-Years only. In the 21st century, though, media messages bombard us around the clock from myriad new devices and sources. In this highly interactive seminar, first-year students examine these messages through real-time monitoring of 2012 campaign coverage and, after Election Day, close analysis of the outcome.
