Prerequisite: ENGL 299. Readings in American poetry from the second half of the 20th century, including Beat poetry, the New York School, Black Arts, Confessionalism, and many other movements and individuals. We also consider poetry in performance, the relation of politics to aesthetics, and how various writers negotiate national, sexual, and ethnic identity. Wheeler.
