BUS 195 - Selected Topics in Business Administration


Credits: 3 credits in Fall or Winter; 4 credits in Spring
Planned Offering: Offered when interest is expressed and departmental resources permit.



Prerequisite: Varies with topic. Topical coverage of areas in management, based on the interests of the instructor and students. Topics vary from year to year and are announced prior to registration. May be repeated for degree credit if the topics are different.

Spring 2013 topic:

BUS 195: The Business of Professional Sports (4). Prerequisite: Instructor consent. Preference given to First-Year students. Upper-class students must obtain instructor consent. Using the professional sports industry as context and cases as material, this course introduces students to some of the basic principles of business management, with a special emphasis on business writing and presentations, using the revision process to help improve writing skills. The course involves travel within the United States to expose students to personnel at a number of professional sports organizations. Topics include collective bargaining, the use of digital media, and the future of women’s professional sports, among others. Hoover.
