ANTH 286 - Land in Lakota Culture, Religion, and History

Planned Offering: Spring 2013 and alternate years.

This class focuses on the religious, cultural, and historical dimensions of the Lakota Sioux’s ties to their lands as they found expression in the beliefs and practices of pre- and post-reservation Lakota communities. The specific themes that the seminar will address are: 1) Lakota Lands, Culture, and Cosmology; 2) Lakota Lands, Subsistence, and Ceremony; and 3) Land in Lakota History - 1851 to the Present; 4) Sacred Landscape and Contestation.
