LAW 523 - Legal Analysis and Communication Course Type: First Year Course Credits: 2
Prerequisites: 1L class standing. Description: Legal Analysis and Communication introduces students to the fundamentals of legal reasoning, analysis, and predictive communication. It focuses on the process of writing legal office memoranda and other forms of predictive communication, such as legal emails, client interviews, and supervisor briefings. The office memo writing process begins with writing and rewriting segments of a memo that will predict the likely outcome of a legal issue for a client based on provided case law. A second memo incorporates research into the process. Students receive substantial individualized feedback throughout the semester, including participating in individual conferences about their final writing assignment.
