LAW 706 - Advanced Torts: Current Issues Course Type: Upper Level Elective Credits: 2
Description: The course examines the legal principles underlying civil liability for injuries to persons and property within the context of current issues in tort law. Legal theories covered include products liability; nuisance; defamation; invasion of privacy; interference with contact and prospective opportunities; and misrepresentation. Current issues discussed will include recent defamation lawsuits and the debate over the “actual malice” standard; products liability litigation involving technology and gun violence; nuisance litigation involving the opioid crisis; and environmental litigation (e.g., pollution and “greenwashing”).
