LAW 747 - State and Local Tax

Description: This course will provide students with a fundamental understanding of the principles underlying state and local taxation. Taxes covered include the real property tax, state personal and corporate income taxes, and sales and use taxes. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of the constitutional limits on state tax in general. Important current developments covered will include recent case law, the creation of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SSTP), the impact of the Internet Tax Freedom Act and the influence exerted by the Multistate Tax Commission (MTC). The course is intended to equip students with the basic understanding of state and local taxation and provide them with the ability to identify significant issues and to form a general familiarity with state and local taxation
