With numerous manufacturing giants headquartered in Taiwan, this 4-week study abroad course provides a unique platform for learning contemporary manufacturing. Through a focus on Taiwan’s manufacturing industry, including traditional manufacturing companies like Giant, and novel semiconductor manufacturing companies like TSMC, students will examine the balance between efficiency and sustainability, the ethical considerations of labor practices, and the broader societal impacts of global manufacturing. The course includes company tours, interactions with industry professionals, guest lectures on advanced manufacturing, and philosophical reflections on ethical and societal implications of technology. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of these multifaceted dynamics, meanwhile also learning and embracing the local culture while studying there.
