BUS 240 - Ethics, Business, and Society

Credits: 3

This undergraduate course examines ethical issues associated with business practice from the individual, organizational, and institutional levels. As noted by the AACSB International, it is essential for business students to understand the symbiotic relationship between business and society. The actions of business leaders affect not only themselves, but also customers, employees, investors, suppliers, governments, citizens, and communities. Moreover, their choices can either enhance or undermine trust in business and in capitalism more broadly. By defining the purpose of a business in terms of its social context, the various broader impacts on different communities and on the environment can be better understood and evaluated. To that end, the primary goal of this course is that students be able to apply ethical principles and values to make informed business decisions.
