PHYS 230 - Classical Mechanics

A student may not receive degree credit for both ENGN 204 and PHYS 230. Prerequisite: PHYS 111 and MATH 221. A comprehensive journey through the foundational and advanced principles of classical mechanics. The course begins with an in-depth study of Newton’s laws of motion and progresses through topics including energy, momentum, oscillations, the central-force problem, rigid body motion, and accelerated reference frames. Special focus is given to the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of mechanics, providing students with powerful tools for describing and predicting the motion of physical systems.
