MATH 401: Directed Individual Study: Mathematics of Puzzles and Games (1). In this course, the students examine some of the games that were only briefly studied in MATH 369 during Spring 2010 and investigate other games to see if they are suitable for study when MATH 369 is offered again. Dymàcek.
MATH 401: Directed Individual Study: Pattern Classification (1). A cursory view of the statistical inference and pattern recognition algorithms of the seminal book Pattern Classification by Duda/Hart/Stork. Topics covered include Bayesian inference, neural networks and support vector machines. Throughout, we discuss and validate the application of said techniques to historical stock-market data and to a virtual portfolio in real time. Stough.
