LAW 441 - Transnational Business and Security Seminar.

This seminar will examine specific legal issues related to international business, the transnational law governing economic relations, and concepts of security. We will study economic security policy and strategic choices faced by governments, international organizations, and the private sector. These choices are shaped by legal regimes including international trade law and its national security exception; cross-border transactions and investment, and in particular the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States; the U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions tool and its authorizing legislation; and the national and international laws and regulations governing cybersecurity for the private sector. The intention of this 2-credit seminar is to provide a survey overview of these topics to better understand how transnational law is increasingly shaped by diverse ideas of security. Two hours.
