LAW 307P - Global Corruption and Good Governance Practicum.


This course will engage students in problem-based learning concerning the comprehensive nature of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and some issues with the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).  The course will require students to engage in deep legal analysis of both foreign and domestic anti-corruption law, engage in fact finding and data collection, counsel “clients” (Past and current clients: the UN Office of Drugs and Crime, USAID New Justice Program in Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice in Albania) present findings and legal analysis to both “clients” in writing and in the form of an oral presentation via remote technology.

Student work in the practicum will consist of two primary projects, both of which will require multiple written assignments and will require a sophisticated understanding of domestic and international law related to corruption. Students will work on projects from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna, Austria in Anti-corruption issues in the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative and the ACAD Anti-corruption education initiative. Students will prepare written memos and or video presentations designed to assist E4J. Students will also collaborate with law students in Ukraine to develop materials and presentations to promote anti-corruption in Education in partnership with the USAID New Justice Program. Students will also work with Albanian law students on projects as developed and assigned by the Albanian Ministry of Justice. (Satisfies the actual practice experience requirement.) Five hours.
