LAW 234P - Complex Litigation Practicum.

This practicum course is designed to simulate the litigation of complex civil cases, with a focus on class actions and other mass actions, parallel litigation, and federal multidistrict litigation.  We will create a law firm-like environment with students forming teams to research, discuss, prepare arguments and briefs and then argue various issues in several different hypothetical cases (e.g., mass torts, antitrust, and consumer fraud).  We will cover issues such as (a) class certification (including interlocutory appeals), (b) class certification experts, (c) jurisdictional issues common in mass actions, (d) issues peculiar to discovery in mass actions, (e) multidistrict issues, (f) select issues related to trying class mass actions, and (g) settlement issues peculiar to mass actions. Five hours. Eggert
