Commonwealth Attorneys: Eight students will work with the Commonwealth’s Attorney in a county or city near the Law School to prosecute state criminal offenses. Criminal Externships II. United States Attorney: Two selected students work with the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Virginia. You will research and prepare motions, briefs, and other court papers, appear in Magistrate’s Court to prosecute misdemeanor cases, and assist in the trial of felony cases. You must be third year practice certified, available to spend at least one day per week in the placement Fall Semester satisfying law related service hours, and available to work approximately half time at the placement during Spring Semester.
