LAW 339P - Jury Advocacy Practicum.

This practicum will develop an approach to the attorney’s trial performance as an extended argument, culminating in the closing argument. This will include engaging in the observation and analysis of jury deliberations in actual trials and the analysis and critique of closing arguments offered in actual trials. It will also include the study of the history and political context of the development of the trial jury in the Anglo-American system of law and the study and analysis of relevant materials from the areas of cognitive psychology, anthropology, and rhetorical theory and practice. Each practicum member will prepare and deliver two closing arguments – the first, for one side in an actual trial, as a practice exercise, and the second, for one side in a different actual trial, as a vehicle for determining the award of credit.Five hours.Brion
