MUS 195 - Topics in Sound Technology

An exploration of a specific topic in which students investigate the tools and techniques of modern sound technology. Audiovisual resources and required field trips may be used to enhance the course material. The class has an emphasis on hands-on learning with the latest recording hardware and software. May be repeated for degree credit if the topics are different.

Fall 2016, MUS 195-01: Fundamentals of Music Technology (1). A general introduction to the fundamental concepts of music technology, including recording, synthesis, digital notation, MIDI, automating effects, and acoustics. Students learn ways to facilitate musicianship through the use of technology. Course topics include an introduction to music-notation software, MIDI and audio recording, signal processing, and interactive music system programming. The course addresses past, current, and emerging trends in music technology as they relate to facilitating an understanding of musical concepts. The course also provides a brief overview of advanced topics and applications in the field. Spice.
