ROML 295 - Topics in Romance Languages Credits: 1-3

Winter, 2016: ROML 295-01: Topic in Romance Languages: Digital Editing of Romance Texts (3). Methods and decisions that go into digitally editing a medieval text written in a hybrid French-Italian language. The student works specifically with the Huon d’Auvergne Digital Edition project and collaborates with the Washington and Lee research team. The student learns digital encoding techniques for representing medieval text and manuscripts online and develops an independent final project that explores solutions for annotating text and manuscript facsimiles in the digital reading environment. Course activities include attending the research team’s weekly planning sessions; meetings with faculty; giving a guest talk in the DH 190 course on research goals and outcomes; and presenting final results at a Digital Humanities colloquium at the end of the term.
