FREN 295 - Atelier avancé de langue, littérature et culture

Credits: 3 in fall, winter; 4 in spring

Prerequisites: FREN 162, FREN 164, or equivalent. A third-year topics or advanced grammar workshop. Recent offerings include: Les dossiers de la presse; Regards sur la ville. May be repeated for degree credit if the topics are different.

Fall 2015, FREN 295-01: Atelier d’écriture: Cinéma (3). Prerequisite: FREN 162 or 164. This course uses French-language films, focusing on contemporary films, as the basis for discussions, oral presentations and directed writing exercises, all in French, for students who would like to learn to analyze films and improve their writing skills. Students acquire vocabulary to describe camera position, camera movement, lighting, and editing as elements of the mise-en-scène. They acquire a better understanding of how the composition and sequencing of images contributes to narrative development. These films are a window onto post World War II French culture and, as such, provide a deeper understanding of contemporary France. (HL) Lambeth. Fall 2015 Planned Offering: Spring
