Prerequisites: FREN 273 or instructor consent. This course gives students a general knowledge of the evolution of French literature and ideas over the centuries through the study of one main theme. Recent offerings include: L’Exil; Regards sur la ville; Le dépaysement; Le voyage dans la literature française; L’esprit critique au XVIIIe siècle.

FREN 331: Etudes thématiques: Regards sur la ville (3). Prerequisite: FREN 273 or instructor consent. This course explores representations of the city through the centuries in literary and non-literary texts, paintings, advertisements, songs, films, and comics. All readings, presentations and writings are in French. A final project allows students to develop their research and writing skills. (HL) Frégnac-Clave.
