SPAN 312 - Medieval Spanish Cultures in Context

FDR: HL
Planned Offering: Spring
Credits: 4

Prerequisite: SPAN 211 or 220 and instructor consent. Spring Term Abroad course. Muslims, Jews, and Christians co-existed for eight-hundred years on the Iberian Peninsula. This course examines these diverse cultures through the texts (literary, historical, religious, and philosophical), the art, and the architecture from the period prior to the arrival of the Arabs in 711, up to and beyond the expulsion of the Jews in 1492. The objective of the course is to glean from the remnants of the experience of their co-existence insights into their distinctive characteristics and how they understood and influenced each other.
