Prerequisite: Three courses at the 200 level. Readings in French literature and civilization of the 19th and 20th centuries. Recent offerings include: La poésie moderne et contemporaine ; Théâtre de l’absurde-Théâtre de la dérision ; L’enfance et l’adolescence dans la prose française moderne. May be repeated for degree credit if the topic is different.

Winter 2017, FREN 342-01: Politique et engagement dans le roman et le théâtre Francophone contemporain (3). An exploration of diverse narrative and theatrical texts by French and Francophone writers of the 20th and 21st centuries and the multilayered interconnections between political and historical realities of our times and their channeling into an aesthetic of trauma and/or resistance. Authors vary from Albert Camus and Andre Malraux to Patrick Modiano, Yasmina Reza, Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, and Denise Boucher. (HL) Radulescu.
